Our Spot The Number | Doubles and Near Doubles are an engaging way for students to work on addition fluency. This resource is designed for students to develop their number sense skills when learning how to use doubles and near doubles as an addition strategy.
Once students have an understanding of how to double numbers, these are a perfect game to play to further develop students’ automaticity and fluency.
Spot the Number can be used for:

- Lesson warm-ups
- Math centers / rotations
- Whole class or
- Small group activities
How the game works:
- Print out the number cards or number sentence cards (depending on what skills you want your students to work on)
- Print the accompanying answer boards and your students are ready to play. This game can be played independently, or with 2– 3 players.
- Players take turns to flip over a card and try to spot the answer on the game board. Once found, they cover the answer with a counter on the game board and place their card in the discard pile. If students can’t find the answer, they turn the card back over and the next player takes a turn.
- The winner is the person with the most counters on the game board.
