This activity is a fun way to develop an understanding of how multiplication and division can be represented. It also makes a beautiful maths display for your classroom.
Students are given the opportunity to represent a multiplication or division fact as
- The algorithm (centre of the flower)
- Groups of / equal groups
- Repeated addition / repeated subtraction
- Algorithm fact families
- Skip counting
- Arrays
- On a number line and
- Commutative property
Ideal to use as:
• A whole class lesson
• A math rotation / during math centres
• Morning work
• An assessment
• A student created anchor chart
Differentiation:
Different versions have been included to support or challenge students where needed.
We have also included a bonus activity that has 6 examples of a completed multiplication flower. Use this to scaffold and support learners, as a hands-on maths activity or an anchor chart for students to refer to as they try to create their own flower.
