Pizza Fraction Craft | Halves, Quarters, Eighths Lesson

This fraction craft is a fun way for students to put their knowledge about fractions into action. Teach your students about fractions and then ask them divide their whole pizza up and decorate each part, naming the fraction of the pizza.

These fraction pizzas are an ideal hands-on activity, classroom display or even assessment when teaching fractions in Grades 1 and 2.

What is included:

• Chef head (boy and girl)
• Pizza base to decorate
• Recording template
• Pizza bases broken up into halves, quarters and eighths included if you want to provide a scaffold for your students
• Pizza toppings (students could share 1 page between 2)

What students need to do:

• Students divide their whole pizza using a ruler (OR give them a template of your or their choosing).
• Students decorate each part of their pizza using different toppings (we recommend sticking to 1-2 toppings for each part).
• They then record their learning on the recording template.
• They put their creations together by attaching their chef head to the top of the pizza.
• Optional: Students cut their pizza into parts and glue onto a coloured background or cut up their pizza and glue onto a whole pizza writing the fraction under each flap.
